Without getting too political about the obvious, the home that we all share (and often take for granted) is undergoing a major transformation and unfortunately, it is not the type of makeover that our future generations will be thanking us for!
Climate change created by our urbanized and disposable lifestyles is impacting all life forms around the world, who for some time have faced grueling new challenges for survival because of it.
For as long as I can remember, we have experienced frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans which are directly harming communities by wreaking havoc on people's livelihoods and communities.
To avoid or even slow down, the seemingly inevitable, there are steps that we can collectively take if we all begin to make better choices about what we do in our everyday lives.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide sustainable alternatives for our customers and encourage better purchasing decisions, we have recently joined forces with Ecologi to offset our company emissions and support renewable energy projects around the world. Reducing our carbon emissions seemed like a wise option, however, in supporting carbon reduction and renewable energy projects we are also investing into removing more greenhouse gasses than our carbon footprint puts in.
We're planting trees!
We found that of the best methods for us to help tackle the climate crisis and to prevent the temperature of the Earth from rising to above 1.5 Degrees Celsius, is to plant trees.
Not only do we rely on the trees and forestry for the very air that we breathe, but it is also fair to remember that they provide home and shelter to half the world’s land-based habitats. When chopping down trees for our paper, tissue, medicines, cosmetics & detergent (but to name a few), we also tend to forget that second to our oceans, the forests provide us with the largest storehouses of carbon, absorbing the greenhouse gases that create climate change.
We are now in a strong position to create change, with so many opportunities available for us to start restoring just some of the areas that have been damaged by deforestation. This is why, we have taken the steps to work with Ecologi and The Eden Reforestation Project (our tree planting partners), which allow us to support the amazing work that is being done in countries like Madagascar.
In the one month that we have been a part of the project, MallyBoo.co.uk has contributed to 22 new trees being planted in this region - which we appreciate is still only small step in contributing the solution of a very large problem. As a business, we have pledged to plant 100 trees by the end of February 2021 and are committed to finding as many ways as possible, for us to take accountability for the actions we take and choices we make with regards to our impact on the Earth.
